So you want to play at Wooden Nickel Music...
This is a short guide to what is required
to play at our stores.
Please keep in mind that Wooden Nickel Music is a RECORD STORE. We
are not a Club/Concert
Hall/Amphitheater/House Show. Bands must remember that we still
have to have a shop that is open
while you are playing. You don't have to play light music in the
background in the corner of the store,
but you can't blow the roof off either. Another thing to remember
is that all our shows are FREE. We
don't/will not charge anyone to come to see you. As a band, these
shows must be for promotional
purposes and not paying gigs. But you can sell merch to make the
performance worth your time.
Who can play at Wooden Nickel Music...
We do not have one genre that we have play at our stores. Almost
anything is welcome. Unfortunately,
we can't have a few types of music performed: hardcore, black metal,
experimental noise, blatantly
offensive lyrics, cover bands and rap*.
*Rap music is all fine and dandy as an art form. The problem we
have had in the past is most rap artist
just play karaoke with their latest album. These have been some,
if not, the worst performances we
have had. We will allow rap artist play if they perform their own
music in the store, no prerecorded
discs in our CD player. If you need an example of good rap
performances, please take a look at the
Third Frame videos on our In-Stores page.
What's next? We need a product to sell...
For a band/artist to play at our store, we need something to sell.
If you don't have anything to sell yet,
take your time and make a good product, and then contact us. We do
not want bands to perform and
not have something for people to buy. The product that you want to
sell can be CD's/LP's/45's or
possible DVD's if that's what you have. Your product must look
professional (not necessarily
professionally made).
Alright, we have everything so far...
Please send an e-mail to:
instores@woodennickelmusicfortwayne.com
if you have a product to sell
(or already have an item in our stores) and fit the general guidelines
outlined above. Please have a
date range picked out when you e-mail us. Try to leave at least a
month before you want to play.
We have to have time to let people know about your performance and that
is impossible to do if you
want to play tomorrow. Also look at our In-Stores page to see if
anyone is already playing on the day
you want. We try to keep most performances on Fridays and
Saturdays. If you are a touring band
and are stopping in town on a different day, we can try to work you in
on whatever day you are in town.
You've been approved...
Well, your performing a show, you must promote it. We'll do what
we can, but since we try to be
everyone's friend and don't have a defined genre for our stores, we
cannot guarantee that a million
creaming fans will show up to your show. We try to get people to
see new bands in our store, you
need to bring your devoted friends to see you again. Your show
will probably have some new faces,
but you'll see some of your old friends too. It would be nice for
you to design your own fliers. We
can make fliers, but they don't always look as awesome as we would like.
Plus you have all your
designs on hand for your logos and album art. If you make a flier,
it would be nice if you sent us
printed show posters to put in our stores. Just send them to the
Clinton store, address listed on the
Stores page. You could then send us a picture of the flier to the
Instores e-mail address so we
could make hand-out fliers to pass out.
Day of...
We now have a P.A. that we will set up for you We also have a couple of extra
cords and power cords.
You
will also need to bring your own instruments, there are too many
different kinds for us to keep one
of each in stock. Please arrive 1/2 hour before your performance
time. We try to start performances
at the listed times, unlike some venues that wait until an hour or so
after. Afterwards, please clean
up anything that you have brought, we don't want to clean up after you
like your mom does. |
